Golfing Northwest Wisconsin

Fall is a great time of year to give your golf clubs one last swing. With cooler weather on the horizon, teeing off from your favorite fairway is the perfect way to spend time in the great outdoors here in northern Wisconsin. We’ve selected a few of our treasured golf courses to highlight but there are plenty more to choose from in each our beautiful counties.

WASHBURN COUNTY

Superb golfing is easy to find when visiting Washburn County. Breathtaking courses nestled between the many lakes and forests in this area make for a memorable golfing experience. Bring your favorite golf buddy or the whole family and enjoy an afternoon on one of the great Washburn County golf courses.

Located along the shores of Long Lake, the Walleye Capital of Wisconsin, Butternut Hills Golf Course features fabulous rolling fairways and challenging greens. This course offers an enjoyable golf experience for all players regardless of skill level. Each hole provides a unique, picturesque experience.  A player-friendly restaurant, available year-round, can accommodate parties, weddings and meetings. 

Spooner Golf Club in Spooner, WI is a full-service golf facility open to the public offering two PGA family course tees. With its tree-lined eighteen holes cut out from the rolling hills of Washburn County, Spooner Golf Club is a fantastic representation of classic golf at its finest. Originally designed by Tom Vardon, brother of world-renowned golf professional Harry Vardon, Spooner Golf Club has grown into being one of the premiere golf courses in Northwest Wisconsin.

IRON COUNTY

Golfing is a very peaceful yet competitive sport to enjoy in the beautiful fall colors and early fall breeze! The Tahoe Lynx Golf Course is located just 1.5 miles from downtown Mercer, WI. It was built in 1991 by John Pierpont Jr. It is a beautiful 9-hole golf course where players of all ages and skill levels are welcome. There will be no rangers asking to pick up pace of play so come by, take your time, and enjoy yourself. Just make sure to bring enough golf balls.


Located in Hurley, WI, Eagle Bluff Golf Club is an 18-hole course that is challenging yet accessible for all skill levels. Beautifully groomed with picturesque views, Eagle Bluff Golf Club is the perfect way to spend a peaceful fall day. 

SAWYER COUNTY

Sawyer County golf courses are set amidst the natural beauty of the Northwoods; with its wide open skies, tranquil lakes and abundant wildlife.  

Big Fish Golf Course is rated one of northern Wisconsin’s top golf courses. Designed by the legendary Pete Dye, Big Fish offers a masterful design that challenges even the most skilled players.

There are also traditional courses, modern courses, natural courses that complement the beautiful surroundings and family-run courses that offer top-notch customer service.

Sawyer County even has an age-old course with Scottish influence designed by a Chicago gangster. Barker Lake is a must-visit to experience teeing off like the old-timers. 

No matter which course you choose, Sawyer County is a great golfing destination for friends and families.
