Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean we slow down in Wisconsin! Snowmobiling is extremely popular and groups come from all over the region to experience a fast-paced ride through the Northwoods. Plenty of lodging is available along the vast trail system, so check out some of our favorites and start planning your adventure today!
Washburn County
With over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Washburn County, it can be hard to pick just one favorite, but we put our helmets on and found a trail that is a “must” when it comes to planning your next winter snowmobiling adventure.
Trail 7 makes an 18-mile loop through the McKenzie Unit of Washburn County forests. Ride through thick, snow-covered forests and around frozen lakes and streams while taking in the beauty of Northwest Wisconsin. As you ride Trail 7 and over Casey Creek, a warm water stream, also ride over a major tributary of the Namekagon National Scenic River.

Sawyer County
Corridor Trail 31 traverses western Sawyer county from north to south. It provides a variety of terrain for riders as it winds through beautiful county forest land and across frozen Lac Courte Oreilles and more. This scenic trail offers excellent trail-side accommodations so riders can easily find gas, lodging and restaurants, as well as multiple trailhead locations and access to other Sawyer county trails. Bayfield County
Bayfield County has abundant snowmobile trails, given it is the second largest county in the state – with half of its land being public. If you have limited time in Bayfield County, here are two trails you have to ride:
Trail 1 leads to Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands while Trail 31 goes from Iron River to North Boundary. The best part? These two are trails are actually connecting so you can hit both on the same trip! Start on Trail 31 and enjoy a beautiful ride through the majestic Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Don’t be afraid to branch off into the Bayfield County Forest and ride Trail 1 east to Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. There are multiple food and fuel options along the way, so rev up and enjoy the ride – your surroundings will make you feel like you’re in a dream.
Ashland County
Snowmobiling through Ashland County also means you are connected to Bayfield and Douglas counties. The well-traveled tri-county corridor traverses 62 miles through Ashland, Bayfield, and Douglas counties connecting each county with several trails along the way. Lodging and restaurants are ready with their doors open for snowmobile groups to swing in to warm up, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cold one.
